The DSL Now is an initiative between the Studies in Poverty and Inequality Institute (SPII), the Labour Research Service (LRS) and the Southern African Social Policy Research Institute (SASPRI).
Studies in Poverty and Inequality Institute (SPII): SPII is an independent research think tank which focuses on generating new knowledge, information and analysis in the field of poverty and inequality studies through a feminist human rights approach. Through facilitating collaborative partnerships with and between institutions of democracy, academia and civil society organisations, the organisation will be able to develop innovative research and promote sustainable development. It will work to support the development of a tradition of effective public participation in policy making and implementation.
Labour Research Service (LRS): The Labour Research Service (LRS) is a membership-based labour support organisation established in 1986. We support the core functions of trade unions such as collective bargaining and organising and help to link unions with other role-players and constituencies. Our work influences policies that will enable workers to fully claim their rights. We support global union federations in building trade unions and trade union networks around multinational companies in Africa. We influence approaches to gender equality and gender-based violence in unions and within communities in South Africa and Africa. We work to develop new layers of worker leaders within trade unions and in so doing support the reproduction of these important organs of civil society.
Southern African Social Policy Research Institute (SASPRI): SASPRI comprises two not-for-profit organisations: Southern African Social Policy Research Insights (registered in the UK), and Southern African Social Policy Research Institute NPC (registered in South Africa). SASPRI is committed to a rights-based approach to social policy as a route for development in the region. SASPRI undertakes a wide range of research to develop the evidence base for social policy interventions.
